First how people could do such acts and then how they could stand around without horror, but instead some with even pride over these atrocities makes me feel a little sick. When we read about these acts in literature, I consciously accepted that these things did happened and it was horrible; but seeing the pictures makes it real. In Beloved, when Sixo was burned to death it didn't make me feel the repulsion that these pictures stirs in me. These aren't fiction based on real events; they are actual pictures of death. In picture 27, Thomas Shipp and Abram Smith are really dead and hanging there for all to see. Seeing the faces of those that condoned these actions and knowing that they are real too and that they are people that were probably not much different than the normal person is an eye opening experience. However, reading brings us perceptive that the postcards leave out. It allows us to see the thoughts behind the violence and the fear that so many felt because of these events. The readings make you understand, but the pictures make it real.

I am rather late

Technology and I don't get along so good, but better late then never right?
